Hiding places in a staged home

Some unprepared homeowners after staging their home will suddenly ask the following questions like:

  • Where do I hide my shoes for my work tomorrow?
  • What can I do about my toiletries when I leave in the morning?
  • How can I tell the kids not to play with their toys this time?
  • Where should I hide my dirty clothes?

Obviously, home stagers would want homeowners to love their staged home. But it cannot be helped if the homeowners themselves sometimes are stressed out about the huge changes made on their home, resulting in major changes to the do’s and don'ts on a staged home also.
With that in mind, here are the tips that we can provide on where you can hide some of your usual stuff you use on your home after it was staged. These are based from our experience and also from the homeowners themselves that are living on a staged home.

  • Under the bed
Usually, buyers that will tour your house will open the cabinets and closets. But they will not bother looking at what's under your bed. You can slide in some lidded storage boxes that could contain magazines, hobbies and other ordinary things that should not be seen by the buyers.
  • Opaque containers
Little things like underwear, socks, handkerchiefs among others can be stored on little boxes or containers. Once done, you can either line or stack them up to your closet and/or cabinets for it to look much neater. It will even help if you use transparent containers for you to easily look for items.
  • Car trunk
Buyers should be focused at your home, not your car. The space it has is a bit huge to hold big containers or laundry baskets that could contain other things besides clothes.
  • Dresser
Try to rearrange your dresser. You will be surprised at the empty space you can have by doing it. Then you can store any non-glamorous things into it every day before you leave the house.
  • Washer or dryer
This home appliance also holds some space. Once again, just make sure that it is dry and not to be operated while it has some stuff inside of it.
  • Make a routine
What we mean by this is to try to maintain the look of your home as much as possible like polishing the faucet when you brush your teeth or drying the shower stall with a microfiber cloth after you shower. Keeping your magazines under couch cushions. Or making a habit of putting the toilet lid down. You may say these are very minor things but it will really help a lot especially if short-notice showings happen often to your staged home.
  • Cover up and hide
Hampers, wastebaskets and recycle bins would be better off if they have lids or hidden away. Underneath the kitchen sink should be a last resort to hide stuff because buyers often look at it to check for leaks, unless you store them in boxes or containers. In my experience I like top shelves in closets to store private possessions that should be out of sight and reach.

Once again, these tips seem to be stressing at first, much more by making it an everyday habit. But remember that staged homes do sell faster for more money. The last sentence should serve as our goal and inspiration everytime we do the tips above.
